What is Dip Switch
A DIP switch, also known as a digital switch, is a manually adjustable switch that typically consists of several switches grouped together in a standard dual in-line package (DIP). DIP switches "can refer to individual switches or a group of switches. DIP switches are generally designed on printed circuit boards and used in conjunction with other electronic components to adjust the characteristics of electronic devices.
DIP switches can be seen as a substitute for jumper groups, with the main advantage being that switches are easier to switch states than jumpers, and there are no short-circuit devices that may be lost or detached. The DIP switch with a sliding rod was patented in the United States in 1976. DIP switches were first used in 1974 and were incorporated into ATARI's Flipper game in 1977.
Dip switch is what we usually call a dial switch.
